Story Groups

What is a Story Group?

Story Groups are regular creative writing sessions for adults, led by a workshop leader who is often a professional writer.  Tell Us Another One runs 9 Story Groups, at different locations in the boroughs of Bury, Oldham and Rochdale.  It’s free of charge, and open to all – no previous experience of creative writing is needed.  If you need a creche for your child so you can come along, contact us in advance and let us know; and feel free to get in touch if you’ve got any other questions – otherwise, just turn up!

Why join us?

“I am writing to tell you how much I enjoy the ‘Tell Us Another One’ group run by Cartwheel Arts.  Recently I moved from South Bury to North Bury and didn’t know anyone in this area.  The group helped me to meet people and make friends.  It is a great idea having little meetings with other groups as we meet different people of other nationalities.  Having something in common helps us to overcome differences in culture and to respect each other.  Some of the poetry written by the Pakistani ladies in Scribble is so beautiful, simple and elegant.”  Evelyn Harris, Seedfield Story Group, July 2011

Story Group members say they enjoy the group feeling and the fun, the chance to meet new people, and the opportunity to bring out their creativity.  Most people find they’ve got talents and skills they never knew they had!  If you’re a more experienced writer, you’re welcome too – you might value the chance to make time for your writing, and to work with some really respected and interesting writers.

Your nearest Story Group meets once a month – click on the button below, or the map on the right, for information about when and where.
